Wingeom (940K) for Windows 95/98/ME/2K/XP/Vista (31 Dec 07)
31 Dec: At a user’s request, the 3D polyhedral library now allows you to center a polyhedron at an existing point.
18 Dec: Fixed a couple of errors in the 16 Dec version.
16 Dec: At a user’s request, added a 2D dialog box to the Line menu that enables the drawing of tangents to conic sections. Also fixed a number of irregularities.
10 Dec: Several changes. In 3D, you can place a point on a circle using an angular coordinate (as in 2D). Given a sphere, the program will calculate the circle of tangency points on the sphere determined by an external point. A similar construction is available for tangent segments common to two spheres. Macros in 2D will now copy conic sections. In 3D, the coordinates for the Archimedean snub icosidodecahedron have been re-calculated (they were inaccurate). I also corrected an error in the Painter’s algorithm, which was causing a crash now and then. I modified my SVG header, having learned that it did not quite follow the standard. A number of other small enhancements have been made to dialog boxes. Here is a new applications link, courtesy of Marilyn Murray.
23 Nov: Brought the Dutch, Korean, and Turkish versions up to date.
22 Nov: Added a fifth 3D display mode. This one allows dotted hidden lines and colored fill to coexist. Also added a demonstration of this feature to the demonstration files.
7 Nov: While investigating another anomaly, I noticed that an unchecked “Save labels” item in the 3D|Transform menu was being ignored. This can cause trouble during animations. It is now fixed, but this may affect files you have already created (sorry for any inconvenience). During the revision of 29 Sept, I inadvertently disabled sphere-segment intersections in 3D. Should be ok now.
29 Oct: Brought the Hungarian and Slovak versions up to date.
21 Oct: Brought the Polish version up to date.
18 Oct: A user noticed that I had neglected to activate pattern fills in 2D SVG files. This has been remedied.
17 Oct: Brought the Croatian and Dutch versions up to date.
16 Oct: Restored color to the five-point conics in 2D windows. Brought the German version up to date.
15 Oct: Brought the Korean version up to date.
14 Oct: Several users have expressed a desire to insert Wingeom diagrams into their web pages. The current version was created in response to these requests. In the Other menu, click “SVG file” to create a file that can be displayed by any SVG-enabled browser. The acronym SVG stands for “scalable vector graphics” which is an XML graphics file format recommended by The World Wide Web Consortium. Additional information can be found here, and you can download the Adobe SVG Viewer here. Because this is a new venture, I expect to get reports of oversights and suggestions for improvements. In the current version, a few repairs were made to hyperbolic windows (one bug had disabled hyperbolic tesselations; there was a memory leak that crashed long sessions of vertex-dragging; and several lines of bad code afflicted upper half-plane views).
2 Oct: Fixed another rotation anomaly in 3D. Surfaces were not being transformed correctly.
1 Oct: In 3D, the second Transf|Rotation option (of four) was behaving erratically. It has been fixed.
29 Sept: In 3D, I discovered that my system of managing the pieces produced by cutting planes was badly flawed (too much slicing used up memory quickly), so now there is a new system in place. There should be no external signs of change, and old files should still open, but this may be wishful thinking.
4 Aug: Exterminated a bug in that caused sporadic crashes when using 3D|Point|Paste coordinates to introduce new points into a diagram.
18 July: The 3D Linear menu now has a Convex-hull function, which calculates the face structure for a given set of vertices. The Other|Volume function no longer requires that the faces be in the diagram. I also fixed a bug that crept into the spherical window in the last few weeks, which caused sporadic crashes.
17 July: In measurement dialog boxes, there is now shorthand for runs of vertices. For example, ABCDEFGHIJK is equivalent to A->K. In 3D, the Other|Volume dialog box can now be left on the screen. (Soon this function will apply to any set of vertices, whether or not the faces appear in the diagram.) I also fixed a bug that afflicted 3D macros incorporating vector sums (introduced last summer) or segment deletion.
9 July: Two changes in 3D windows. First, the ray-tracing option now includes simple brightness variation, which enhances the 3D effect. Second, you can now measure polyhedral solid angles. The syntax is described in the help file for the measurement dialog box. Another significant change is in hyperbolic windows, which now allow the user to switch between the disk display and the half-plane display. I await reports of bugs.
11 June: Posted the Croatian version today.
2 June: Fixed a bug that was causing sporadic crashes when a hyperbolic regular polygon was requested.
20 May: A user reported a small bug in the “make transparent” option in the 3D|Edit|Linear dialog box. The garbled text was only apparent if you clicked Other|Lists|History, or if you tried the macro example in the Edit|Help text (which did not work because of this bug).
14 May: Had to make a repair to the new ray-tracing mode, to make it print properly.
13 May: In 3D, surfaces can now be displayed in color. A ray-tracing option has been added, to deal with intersecting surfaces. Also posted the
Australian version today.
21 Mar: A user pointed out that the program was suddenly rejecting user-defined function names that involved digits. Should be ok now.
19 Mar: Modified the three-tangent-circle dialog box in 2D so that the extra (Descartes-Soddy) circles are requested via a separate dialog. This enables the re-application of the construction. Also fixed a minor glitch (you probably did not even notice it) with the background bitmap feature in the Voronoi window. The pen-attributes dialog box was not working well in the spherical window, so I fixed that also.
3 Mar: The 3D|Edit|Linear Elements list box was not being updated after the “add” button was clicked. Now it is.
23 Feb: Posted the
Korean version today.
14 Feb: A creative user wanted to be able to import a bitmap to be used as a background in a Voronoi window. Now he can. I await reports of bugs or (preferably) requests for enhancements.
13 Feb: Brought the Hungarian and Slovak versions up to date.
18 Jan: Brought the German version up to date.
7 Jan: The Dutch, Polish, and Portuguese versions are up to date.
5 Jan: Somebody’s Law: For every repair, there is an equal amount of damage done somewhere else. I managed to make 3D Anim|Tracings invisible sometime in the last couple of months. They are visible again.
3 Jan: Activated PiCTeX images in Anim|Graph windows. In 3D, the random polyhedral units are now recognized as “random” in the Edit menu. The Dutch and Portuguese versions are up to date.
2 Jan: An observant user noticed in the 3D window that the Johnson polyhedra numbered 55 and 56 were switched (requesting “para” gave “meta”, and vice-versa). Should be ok now.
