Exeter 17   Winchendon 2
Exeter, NH, Wednesday, May 13th - Exeter came out strong against an overmatched Winchendon team and eventually cruised to a 17-2 victory. It was apparent early on that Winchendon did not have the skills or experience to compete with Exeter despite their strong effort and well-coached zone defense. Exeter's trio of faceoff men Mike Sotak, Sam Burns, and Max Fenkell dominated the ball with the help of great wing play, and this enabled Exeter to stay on the offensive and wear Winchendon down. The BIG RED ran four midfield lines and rarely played the first line other then to practice the man-up offense. Liberal substitution at all positions allowed for lots of playing time for all the reserves, and their play was strong. It was particularly nice to see Sam Burns and Seungki Kim score the first goals of their varsity careers, and prep Trevor Marrero notch his first varsity point with his 1st quarter assist. Sean Fujimori and Ford Spencer both played well in the goal, and Dustin Zubke played particularly well at defense. The offense had 10 different goal scorers with Eric Slingerland notching 6 goals and an assist to lead the way. Charlie Gill scored once and had 6 assists, while Max Cassidy (2g,1a) and Sam Burns (2g, 0a) were the other multiple goal scorers. The team surprised Coach B with an icy water cooler shower on the sidelines at the end of the game to celebrate his 300th career victory as head coach at Exeter. He was very touched and honored by the celebration and their awarding of the game ball to their coach. click here to see video highlights
