Wolfeboro, NH , Wednesday, April 29th -The undefeated Brewster Academy lacrosse team was all that was advertised as they pulled away from Exeter midway through the 3rd quarter and defeated the Big Red 11-5. Despite Exeter having trouble picking up ground balls and getting comfortable in their own offensive zone for any sustained period of time, the game remained close for the first 30 minutes of play. Brewster showed off their considerable stick skills and talent right off the bat when they scored in the first minute of play and then went on to score 3 more times in the first quarter. Reminiscent of the bad start and mini-comeback against Loomis, Exeter started playing much better in the later part of the first and most of the 2nd quarter. The defense settled down to limit the powerful Brewster offense to one 2nd quarter goal, and Max Cassidy, Patrick Johnson, and Gabo Borunda scored for Exeter to make it a 5-3 game at halftime. Brewster struck immediately to open up the 3rd quarter, but Johnson answered several minutes later to keep it a 2-goal game at 6-4. It was at this juncture, midway through the 3rd quarter, that the game got away from Exeter. A fastbreak goal off a faceoff was immediately followed by another unsettled goal off a faceoff infraction and Brewster went into the 4th quarter with a much more comfortable 4-goal lead at 8-4. When Brewster again scored within 30 seconds of the opening faceoff of the 4th quarter, it was all but over. Picking up ground balls, being patient on offense, and better shot selection are clearly things Exeter needs to improve upon as we move forward. The effort was certainly there, but execution needs to get better.
