Exeter 15   Winchendon 3
Winchendon, MA, Wednesday, May 14th - As expected, Exeter encountered an inexperienced and undermanned Winchendon team that has been depleted by some injuries and players leaving school. After the typical slow start after a long bus ride, Exeter exploded offensively from the 4-minute mark of the 1st quarter to the 4-minute mark of the 2nd quarter. In that 12-minute span, Exeter scored eight unanswered goals to take a 9-0 lead. Co-game ball winner Henry Lanier scored five of those eight goals during that offensive spurt as the Winchendon goalie could not deal with Henry's left-handed rockets that had too much speed and good location for a save. The entire 2nd team was playing most if not all the minutes by this time in the 2nd quarter, and it was a great opportunity for game time experience. The 2nd team responded well by playing great defense, riding hard, and creating many scoring opportunities. Leading the way defensively was co-game ball winner Sean Fujimori who started in the goal and pitched a shutout until the 3rd quarter. Sean not only made 9 saves, a few of them right on his doorstep, but he did a great job leading the clear and making great passes up the field for Exeter fast breaks. The 2nd defense of Tim Shea, Adrien Fogelquist, Alex Akoto, and Ryan Breen did an excellent job of shutting down the Winchendon offense, forcing turnovers, and clearing the ball to the offensive end. One highlight that brought the most cheers from the fans.was a Tim Shea assist to Owen McAleer for his first goal of the season. Other notable offensive gems include Greg Jenkins scoring the first two goals of his career and Cole Page scoring a goal and assisting another.
