Exeter, NH, Wednesday, April 16th - Led by Nick Laster's six goals and game-ball winner Ted McKenna's five goals, the Exeter offense took advantage of a very aggressive but inexperienced Pomfret defense. Twelve of Exeter's 14 goals were assisted, a very good indicator of how well Exeter moved the ball against Pomfret's extended zone defense. Ted and Nick made excellent cuts and found seems in the zone, while teammates Matt Rawson (1g, 3 assists), Eric Slingerland (1g, 2 assists), Charlie Brewer (1g, 1 assist), and Brent Mayo (2 assists) did a great job of finding the open man and putting the pass on the cutter's stick. The defense played an aggressive man to man style of play that was designed to cause turnovers and lead to transition opportunities. Sam Gardner personally carried the ball on fast breaks after stripping his attackman, and in both cases he assisted goals with pinpoint passes. Matt Callahan, Eddie Williams, Sam Johnson, Tom Clayton, and Jon Stidd all played a stifling defense in front of goalie Nico von Stackelberg. The face-off group led by face-off man Eric Eberhart continued its domination by winning 17 of 18 face-offs before retiring near the end of the 3rd quarter. After building leads of 8-3 at the half and 13-4 at the 3/4 mark, the 2nd units for offense and defense took over the 4th quarter. To their credit, Pomfret's starters continued to play hard and gave the Exeter 2nd unit real difficulty. After a shaky start to the quarter, everyone settled down a little and started to play good lacrosse. The defensive unit of Tim Shea, Alex Akoto, Adrien Fogelquist, and long pole middies Jeff Reppucci and Ryan Breen did a very nice job clearing the ball under goalie Sean Fujimori's direction. Once on offense, Niko Furnald, Conrad Reausch, Greg Rives, Michael Carley, Cole Page, Owen McAleer, and Greg Jenkins controlled the ball nicely, got off some nice shots, and effectively worked time off the clock towards the end. It was a solid win for the Big Red.
