Exeter 3   KUA 4
Exeter, NH , Wednesday, May 7th -One of the inexplicable and unpredictable aspects of sports at all levels is that sometimes a team or an individual can play a great game while other times that same team or individual does not come ready to play at all. The later was certainly the case for Exeter today, especially at the offensive end of the field. Although due credit goes to a well-coached and highly motivated Kimball Union team, they defeated an Exeter team that did not resemble the same club that had previously defeated Avon, Loomis, Nobles, and some other very talented teams. Exeter was out of synch all day, was outhustled, outworked, and outcoached by KUA for the entire game. When a desperation KUA 35 yard shot at the goal from well outside the restraining line went in the goal off of a screen in front of the crease with just one second left in the first period, it was clear Exeter was not going to get any breaks either. Exeter generated many opportunities in transition and managed to squander all of them with either poor passing or poor shooting. The KUA goalie made many solid saves, but shot quality and choice for Exeter was generally poor. This was a classic upset that happens in sports regularly, but it never feels good when it happens to your own team. Exeter needs to shake this off, regroup, improve on the fundamentals that have led them to a 10-2 record, and hopefully play well against a talented and battle tested NMH team on Saturday.
