Exeter 13 Cushing 4
Ashburnham,MA, Saturday, April 5th - Exeter's offense was clicking on all cylinders from the beginning of the game, and the defense yielded few quality opportunities for the Cushing offense. This led to a 5-0 lead at the end of one quarter, 9-0 at the half, and 11-0 before Exeter allowed their first goal in the 4th quarter. Particularly encouraging was that eleven of Exeter's thirteen final goals were assisted. Cushing was aggressively sliding all over the field and Exeter kept moving the ball to the open man. Leading the offense was game ball winner Nick Laster with 4 goals and an assist. Nick and Matt Rawson (3 goals, 1 assist) ran the offense perfectly as eleven different Exeter players scored or assisted. Other multiple point producers included Eric Slingerland (3 assists), Ted McKenna (2 goals, 1 assist), Max Cassidy (1 goal and 1 assist), and Brent Mayo (1 goal and 1 assist). On defense, goalies Nico von Stackelberg and Tyler Page as well as defenders Sam Gardner, Matt Callahan, Sam Johnson, Eddie Williams, and Tom Clayton were impenetrable through three quarters of play. Liberal substitution started early in the 3rd quarter, and to Cushing's credit, they did not stop playing hard despite the 11-0 score. When Cushing scored 4 unanswered goals to open the 4th quarter, Exeter needed a timeout to regroup. A great goal by Cole Page off of a fabulous Niko Furnald assist proved to be the final nail in the proverbial coffin. This ignited the team to play solid lacrosse right to the finish line.
