Exeter 6 Pomfret 7 OT
Exeter, NH, Wednesday, April 18th
- This was a heartbreaking loss because when you have the lead with less than
two minutes to go in regulation, you should win the ball game. Exeter led
6-5 and simply had to do what they had successfully done since midway through
the 3rd period, shut down the Pomfret offense. Instead, an unnecessary slide
led to a tying goal from the crease with 1:29 left in the game, and the game
went to sudden death. Exeter won the faceoff and inexplicably lost the ball
in our own offensive end before the offense middies even transitioned into
the game. Then, on the ensuing dead ball clear, the defensive middies did
not find their men on the ride and Pomfret took advantage with the winning
fast break goal. This was a game between two good teams, but Pomfret played
a little harder and a little tougher on the ground balls. Unfortunately, the
loss negated an outstanding performance from goalie Yuri Larrabee
who made 14 saves, many of them spectacular. The offense was led by George
Negroponte's 2 goals and an assist, Max Alderman's
1 goal and 3 assists, and Freddy Janney's 2 goals. Too many
mistakes against a good team playing at home with a lot of heart was the story
of this game. After three long away trips in a row, it will be nice to play
at home this coming Saturday. click
