Exeter 8 NMH 9 (OT)
Exeter, NH, Saturday, Mat, 12th
- Exeter played excellent lacrosse for forty-two minutes of this forty-eight
minute game and were ahead 8-4 with less than 6 minutes remaining in the 4th
quarter. Uncharacteristically, the BIG RED stopped playing Exeter lacrosse
for the last six minutes of the fourth quarter. Everything that could go wrong
did, and NMH took advantage of Exeter’s repeated mistakes, some good
fortune, some questionable calls, and their own hustle, desire, and skill.
NMH dominated possession in those last six minutes because of Exeter’s
lack of winning a faceoff, picking up a ground ball cleanly at either end
of the field, and making some poor choices with the ball. When NMH scored
back-to-back goals to close the gap to 8-6, a timeout by Exeter failed to
stop their momentum. Two more NMH goals tied the score, and after each score
they got the ball back on the ensuing faceoff. Once again NMH won possession
to start the overtime, but Exeter's defense stripped the ball loose as an
attacker approached the goal. The loose ball went in front of Exeter’s
goal where Exeter players had a chance to get it to the goalie or rack it
away to the side, but failed to do so. Instead, it was picked up by an NMH
player, and shot into the net for the NMH OT win. It
was a heartbreaking loss of a game that seemed under control. Some hard lessons
were learned this afternoon, and hopefully they will be applied during the
remainder of the season. click here
