Exeter 14  Cushing 3
Exeter, NH, Saturday, April 7th - Exeter defeated Cushing 14-3 in one of the most solidly played lacrosse games the coaches could recall in Exeter's recent history. Every facet of Exeter's game was clicking on all cylinders as they dominated play against a Cushing team that had size, stickwork, and athleticism. It was just Exeter's day as JP Collmus, Eric Slingerland, and co-game ball winner Nic Laster each scored a goal in the first quarter to give Exeter a 3-0 lead. The defense led by the other game ball winner Evan O'Brien played magnificently. When Sam Gardner, John Dwyer, Eddie Williams, and Evan managed to yield a quality shot to Cushing, goalie Yuri Larrabee would make the save and quickly find a way to clear the ball to the offensive end. The 2nd quarter was when Evan really showed his versatility. He came off the wing on faceoffs and gobbled up ground balls, he played close defense against the top attackman and stripped him of the ball repeatedly, and to top things off, he went coast to coast and scored unassisted to give Exeter a 4-0 lead at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. The settled offense played their best lacrosse of the year. Nic and JP scored again, Max Alderman scored, and Tom Lareau pumped in his first goal of the season to put Exeter ahead 8-0 at the half. Exeter wanted to make sure that they came out strong in the 3rd quarter and did not allow Cushing into the game. Eric Eberhart helped Exeter maintain ball control with excellent faceoff work. Nic Laster made sure of the game's outcome by scoring his 3rd and 4th goals of the game unassisted to essentially ice the contest in the beginning of the 3rd quarter. JP Collmus scored his 3rd goal and captain Chris Silberman tallied one to put Exeter ahead 12-0 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. When the substitutes entered the game for the entire 4th quarter, they played extremely well. Goalie Tyler Page made five saves and was very effective at clearing the ball. Prep Ryan Breen scored his first career goal on a great assist by d-middie Tom Clayton, and then Tom made an even nicer assist to Cole Page for his first career goal. It was a great day for the BIG RED, and they will certainly need to play at a similar high level on Wednesday as they travel to Avon Old Farms to play their perennially powerful team.
