Exeter 7  Brewster 10
Exeter, NH, Monday, April 30th - Although disappointing, it is not surprising that Exeter had a mental and physical letdown on the Monday after the big win against Loomis. This is not to take anything away from a very good Brewster team whose star attackman is a signed recruit for Syracuse, and deservedly so. His 5 goals and 2 assists was more than the difference in this game. Nevertheless, Exeter did not play the solid defensive and transition game that has been the signature of our season. Playing an undefeated opponent on a Monday after a tough and emotional Saturday game is not ideal, but it happens all the time in both high school and college sports. Exeter and Brewster played a 3-3 first quarter, but then allowed Brewster to score SIX unanswered goals with three in the 2nd, two in the 3rd, and the first of the 4th quarter. Exeter just played poor lacrosse during that two quarter stretch, and found themselves trailing 9-3 with 10 minutes to play in the game. Finally some life emerged from the Big Red, and we played very hard and determined lacrosse for the final 10 minutes. Fueling the comeback was great faceoff work by Eric Eberhart and the wing middies, great long pole defense by Evan O'Brien, and three consecutive 4th quarter goals by Nic Laster, Max Alderman, and Tom Clayton. With three minutes to go, the score 9-6, all the momentum, and a man-up situation for Exeter, it looked possible that the comeback could go all the way. Some poor choices squandered the man-up situation needlessly, and when Brewster scored a man-down transition goal as a result, the game was over. Exeter scored again, but never really threatened Brewster's lead.
