Exeter 3  Navy Prep 14
Exeter, NH, Wednesday, May 3rd - Navy Prep conducted a real clinic as they dismantled Exeter 14-3. Navy keeps getting better and better every year as the Academy has clearly decided to send more and more of their top lacrosse recruits to navy Prep for an extra year. Where it used to be a squad of good athletes surrounding about four or five good lacrosse players, Navy Prep is now a full team of Division I lacrosse players. Several of their top players will definitely compete for playing time and starting jobs for Navy's varsity next year. It was clear from the start that Navy was an excellent squad. Exeter managed to hold them scoreless for the first 6 minutes of play, but the ball was constantly at the wrong end of the field and the Navy gunners were getting good looks. The first quarter finished a respectable 3-1, but the Exeter boys did not have an answer for so many top offensive threats on the field at the same time. Scott MacKenzie scored in the first quarter and assisted Sam Duprey in the 2nd quarter, but the BIG Navy defense and an excellent goalie made life tough for the BIG RED offense. The 2nd quarter is when the wheels came off the wagon defensively due to several transition opportunities for Navy. facing an 8-2 halftime deficit, Exeter committed to playing even harder and smarter in the 2nd half. The 3rd quarter was Exeter's best outside the first 6 minutes. Although the score for the period was 2-0 Navy, Exeter's offense controlled the ball for long stretches, and created several shot opportunities that just would not fall. Exeter made it an 8-3 game early in the 4th on Chris Duffy from Scott MacKenzie man-up goal, but Navy quickly responded with two more of their own. At 10-3 and only 6 minutes left, the starters were pulled and everyone played. Exeter definitely improved in many areas from their performance on Monday, and kudos go out to Alec Shand, Wes Chaput, Scott MacKenzie, and Brett Hughes, for having particularly good games against Navy.
