Exeter 15  Kennebunk HS 3
Exeter, NH, Wednesday, April 5th - It was typical first game weather in early April in New England as Exeter dominated Kennebunk HS for a 15-3 first game victory. As the rain and snow fell on a slick field, all the players from both teams played remarkably well given the poor conditions. Exeter jumped out early when Sam Duprey fed Michael Scalise for the first goal less than two minutes into the contest, and then game high scorer Scott MacKenzie scored the next three consecutive goals to give Exeter a 4-1 lead after one quarter of play. Game ball winner Mike Kelley dominated faceoffs to constantly give Exeter possession after each goal. In addition, Mike scored twice, assisted once, and played great lacrosse between the restraining lines. A very strong 2nd quarter led to a halftime lead of 9-1. Liberal substitution got everyone into the game, and the level of play stayed quite good. In addition to Scott MacKenzie's 3 goal and 4 assist output, Chris Duffy added two goals and two assists, Chris Silberman scored twice on nice middie cuts, Michael Scalise added two scores, and several players notched a goal apiece. The defense was dominant throughout. Sometimes over-aggressiveness led to some unnecessary penalties, but all the long poles and short stick defenders played very well. In particular, Brett Hughes, Evan Crosby, and Chris and Nick Downer had outstanding performances. Alec Shand and Yuri Larrabee were both very good in the goal. Overall, this was a very good start to the season in less than ideal conditions. Click here to see game pics.
