Exeter 8  Deerfield 12
Harvard, MA, Saturday, May 20th - Deerfield defeated Exeter 12-8 in a game that featured some moments of great play by Exeter, but way too many turnovers, shots off the mark, and unforced errors were committed to beat a team of that quality. Exeter's inability to clear the ball out of their defensive zone, and the transition opportunities that presented to Deerfield was a big reason for the 5-1 deficit after the first quarter. Exeter settled down and played much better in the 2nd quarter, but still trailed 7-3 at the half. Sam Duprey, Stephen Moulton, and Scott MacKenzie accounted for the three first half goals for the BIG RED. Exeter played Deerfield even from the first quarter on, but the 4-goal margin they created in the first quarter proved too large to overcome. Sam Duprey scored an impressive four goals, three of them in the 2nd half, to lead the Exeter offense. Stephen Moulton scored twice, and Michael Scalise and Scott MacKenzie scored once each as well as assisting twice and once respectively. The game was hard fought and intense, but a victory was not to be. Michael Kelly had a great day facing off for Exeter, and it was nice to have him back from the injured list. The defense played well in the settled 6 v 6 situations, but made way too many errors handling the ball on the clear and giving Deerfield fast break and unsettled opportunities. Both Alec Shand and Yuri Larrabee played solidly in the goal. click here to see game pics
