Cushing, Saturday, April 8th -Game ball winner Sam Duprey scored three of his career high five goals in the first quarter to lead Exeter to an insurmountable 7-1 lead after just one period of play on the Cushing turf. Despite liberal substitution at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, Exeter raced to an 11-1 halftime lead and never looked back. The entire team was clicking on all cylinders from the opening whistle, and just dominated the action all over the field. While Sam Duprey (5 goals), Chris Duffy (2 goals and 4 assists), and Scott MacKenzie (2 goals and 2 assists) were leading the offensive charge, the defense and d-middies were just overwhelming in their aggressive defensive play and ground ball work all over the field. Kudos go to faceoff man Mike Kelley (winning 10 of 13) and his wingmen Chris and Nick Downer, Evan Crosby, and Colin Murphy. They kept the momentum in Exeter’s favor the entire half, and did not allow Cushing to become comfortable in their offensive zone. The long poles of Andrew Farrisey, Brett Hughes, and Kevin Crane were just devastating in their pressure tactics and also highly effective in their clearing of the ball. The 2nd half was an opportunity for the starters to mostly sit and watch their teammates gain valuable game experience. Steve Moulton continues to shine and impress the coaches with his overall play. For the 2nd game in a row, he stunned the crowd with a rocket shot from the outside just under the crossbar. George Negroponte and Charlie Brewer scored their first career varsity goals, and Sam Gardner and Alex Katz notched their first career assists. This was just one of those games that everyone played well and was in complete synch. Starting goalie Alec Shand only saw three shots on goal in the first half, but Yuri Larrabee had plenty of second half action that resulted in a 12 save performance. Yuri also displayed his athleticism and speed multiple times when running out shots or clearing the ball. This was a great team effort by all. Click here to see game pics.
