2006 Alumni Game
Exeter
7 Andover 6
Andover, MA - May 27th, 2006 - For the 8th consecutive
year, the Exeter lacrosse alumni were able to defeat the Andover alumni in
the 17th year of this great event. The 7-6 victory was especially surprising
given the low number of Exeter alumni (12) compared to the great turnout of
Andover alumni who came back to honor retiring teacher and long time Andover
lacrosse coach Paul Kalkstein. Despite the warm day, Exeter's small band of
lax alumni hung tough and managed to keep the score close throughout the contest.
The Smith boys Eamon '96 and Sloan '04 provided most of the
scoring, and goalie Zach Lehman '91 and defenseman Ben
Couchesne '01 led a stubborn defensive effort that thwarted an aggressive
Andover offense. Lacking in long poles, former attackmen Ryan Voccola
'02 and Ryan Glennon '00 played great long pole
defense as did Travis Glennon '05. Travis' faceoff work really
spelled the difference as he controlled the ball for Exeter and let our tired
guys rest. Omar
Amirana '82 was the oldest alumnus to play and he did a remarkable
job given the number of minutes he was on the field. He also was given the
"hit man" award for the game after his jarring hit in the first
quarter separated an Andover player from the ball. Coach Bill Glennon
earns the honors of the oldest player on the field, and he certainly played
with pride alongside his sons Travis and Ryan. Christian Vorkink '95
played great in the midfield and looks to be in as good a shape as ten years
ago. Speaking of great shape, Josh Prudden '99 can still
do it all on the lacrosse field despite spending most of his time working
at hockey. He is still a lefty finisher who has not lost his touch. Hopefully
we will get a better turn out next year as we hope to extend the winning streak
to 9 staright. click here
