Exeter 13 North Yarmouth 1
Exeter, NH, Monday, April 11th
- Exeter's BIG RED lacrosse team made it three
in a row to start the season with a convincing 13-1 win over North Yarmouth
Academy. Unlike the first two games, it did not take very long for the offense
to get going in this one-sided contest as Exeter jumped out to a 5-1 first
quarter lead and never looked back. Nine different players scored goals in
this game that allowed for significant playing time for everyone. There were
many outstanding performances, with the game
ball going to middie Brett Davis who scored 2 goals, dished out 2
assists, won 7 of 9 faceoffs, and played well all over the field. Other top
offensive performers were prep phenom Mark Scalise (3g,1a), Travis
Glennon (2g,1a), and Michael Scalise (1g, 2a). Alec Shand
started and played the entire game in the nets, yielding just one goal on
a tough screen shot from the outside. Otherwise, Alec and the defense
played a swarming pressure defense that kept the NYA offensive players off
balance and making mistakes. The long pole middie group consisting of Brett
Hughes, Evan Crosby, and occasionally Chris Downer continue
to play outstanding lacrosse. Captain Kirk Bansak has been just amazing
with his display of speed that typically follows the vacuuming of a ground
ball. Yesterday, he also scored his first goal of the season. Also scoring
for the first time this season, both on memorable plays, were Brett Hughes
and Steve Reardon. The team continues to play hard and tough lacrosse,
but we have not seen top competition yet. However, that will soon change as
we faceoff against a very good team on Wednesday when we play western powerhouse
Avon Old Farms on Cushing Academy's turf field.
