Exeter, NH, Saturday, April 23rd - On a day when the rainy weather could have been a major factor to the Big Red Laxmen, the home team boys proved that they could play no matter what conditions prevailed. The Big Red played an exceptional first half in all areas of the game to build a 4-0 lead on their way to a 10-3 win over an excellent Mo Brown team. The defense led by Coleman Peeke, Frank Andrews, Pat Flynn, Brett Hughes, Evan Crosby and game ball winner Kirk Bansak pressured the Mo Brown players all over the field. The constant pressure took the talented offensive group from Rhode Island out of their game plan. Once the ball was taken away, the transition from the defensive end to our offensive end was solid. Overall, Exeter's teamwork and ball movement was quick and crisp despite the elements. The offense clicked with precision as we clearly out-shot the visitors. The offense applied a great deal of pressure both in unsettled situations and in settled offensive sets, and if not for the great saves by the Mo Brown goalie, the game could have been well out of reach before the half. Leading the way for the Exeter offense was Jon Higgins with 3 goals. Mike Scalise contributed 2 goals and 2 assists, Mark Scalise had 2 goals, 1 assist, and Sam Duprey was another two-goal scorer as well. Brett Davis chipped in with 1 goal and 2 assists, while Travis Glennon also contributed 2 assists. Matt Harrigan had 10 saves for the Big Red with a handful of them excellent stops. Exeter's man down was really tested because of the large number of Exeter infractions, but they stood strong. The man up team looked sharp as well. The Big Red will gear it up again on Wednesday for the contest with Pingree and finish up the week with a great game scheduled for Saturday against perennial power Loomis-Chaffee.
