Exeter 14  Kennebunk HS 2
Exeter, NH, Wednesday, April 6th - In their first game of the season, and only the 2nd time the team has been outside since returning from spring vacation, the BIG RED overwhelmed Kennebunk HS by a score of 14-2. As expected, it was very sloppy play on the part of both teams for most of the first quarter, which ended with Exeter ahead only 1-0. However, with Travis Glennon and Brett Davis dominating faceoffs, and the offense starting to click, the score by halftime had Exeter with a comfortable 7-1 advantage. Leading the way offensively were the Scalise boys Michael and Mark. Game ball winner Michael Scalise finished with 5 goals and 4 assists, while 9th grader Mark contributed an amazing 4 goals and 1 assist in his Exeter debut. Also having big days offensively were local products Jon Higgins (2g, 2a) and Travis Glennon (3g, 1a). The defense was almost impenetrable, and on the rare occasion Kennebunk generated a quality shot, the goalkeeping trio of Matt Harrigan, Eric Hassett, and Alec Shand made the save. All the long poles played well, and d-middie Kirk Bansak was especially effective both defensively and on ground balls. The coaches were also particularly pleased with the riding and clearing aspect of Exeter's game, especially considering how little it has been practiced. To Kennebunk's credit, they never stopped working hard, and they have had even less outdoor practice time than Exeter. There is still much work to do at all aspects of the game, but this was certainly an encouraging start to the new season. Click Here to see Game Pics    Click here to see video clip
