2005 Alumni Game
Exeter
10 Andover 7
Exeter, NH - For the seventh consecutive year, the Exeter
lacrosse alumni defeated the Andover alumni on the morning prior to the varsity
game. Although it was not a great turnout of alumni, especially for the undermanned
Andover team, the tradition carries on for the 16th consecutive year. Given
the smaller number of players this year, a 7 v 7format was decided upon with
2 players at each field position plus a goalie. Exeter had some real firepower
in the young alumni. Middlebury All-American attackman Michale Saraceni '
01 was back for his 5th reunion along with classmates Conrad Barnes and Dave
Seger. Along with Michael providing much offensive punch, he worked well with
new alumni Notre Dame middie Sloan Smith '04 and Holy Cross attackman Tim
Redmond '04. Adding to the offensive punch and handling most of the faceoffs
was recent Colby graduate Ryan Glennon '00. Other short stick players showing
their old form included Christiaan Vorkink '95 and Jon Frothingham '91. The
fans wanted to see 10th year reunion middie Bart Hacking in action, but a
pulled hamstring form earlier in the week limited his action. Classmate Matt
Gould '95 led a great array of former great long poles that included Austen
Gardiner '96, Kevin Mahoney '92, and Ben Courchesne '01. With Colby's Jeff
Miller '02 in the goal, Exeter was in good shape defensively. Exeter dominated
the early action and went ahead 7-1 by halftime. Amazingly, the shot-handed
Andover team staged an incredible comeback and managed to tie the game a few
minutes into the 4th quarter. However, Exeter ralliedfor three unanswered
goals to finish 10-7 winners. A great time was had by all, lots of parents,
girlfriends, wives, and even children were in attendance; and a nice luncheon
followed the game.
