Exeter 11 Winchendon 6
Wed, 5/12, Winchendon - - Exeter continued their winning ways
today with a convincing 11-6 win over Winchendon on an unusually warm day
in the high 80's. Tim Redmond scored off of a Tom Petty assist
only 45 seconds into the contest, and Exeter never looked back. Although Winchendon
tied the score 1-1 at the nine minute mark of the first period, Exeter then
rattled off five unanswered goals to push out to a comfortable 6-1 advantage
early into the 2nd quarter. Exeter started running three midfield lines early,
and also used liberal defensive substitutions. Several penalties were called
against both teams, and Winchendon used these man advantage situations to
score most of their goals. The score at the half was 8-3, with co-game
ball winners Michael Scalise (4 goals), and Tom
Petty (3 goals, 5 assists) having a hand in much of the offensive
production. Tim Redmond had another great day with three goals and
two assists as well. There were many other quality shots generated by the
offense, but very good goalie play by Winchendon kept the score down. The
third quarter opened up with two Michael Scalise goals to push the
score to 10-3, and then Exeter was content to play mostly ball control and
give everyone lots of playing time. To Winchendon's credit, they never stopped
hustling and working hard, and they managed to outscore Exeter 2-1 in the
4th quarter. The defense of Dylan Cox, Tom Rubel, Jon Reed,
and Alex Zani did their usual fine job, and long poles Gus Davidson
and Ian Drummond also had the chance to play close defense as well.
