Tom Petty sets new scoring standard for 11th graders
Upper Tom Petty has broken the scoring record for 11th graders that was previously held by Exeter's all time leading scorer and current Middlebury College All-American, Michael Saraceni . The previous record was 42 goals and 35 assists for 77 points that Micahel accumulated in a 17-game schedule in 1999. This season, in a 19-game schedule, Tom Petty has scored 44 goals and 36 assists for a total of 80 points. Tom has shattered the previous record for scoring in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades combined that was formerly held by Joaquin Walker '01. Joaquin, a former high school all-american and currently a starting midfielder for Amherst, accumulated 113 points in his 9th, 10th, and 11th grade years of 1998, 1999, and 2000. Tom's total including his 13 goals and 4 assists prep year, and his 30 goals, 27 assists lower year, now stands at 87 goals, 67 assists, for a record 154 points so far. If he is able to put together a senior season that we all expect, Tom will be in a position to challenge Michael Saraceni's all time scoring record of 223 career points.
