2004 East-West Senior Prep School All Star Game
East 8  West 7

Friday, May 28th, 2004, Cushing Academy- The Senior East All-Stars made a stunning comeback against the powerhouse Western team to tie the game 7-7 with only a few seconds left in regulation. In the 2nd possession for the East in the ensuing sudden death overtime, East MVP Matt Nelligan from the Pingree School notched his 3rd goal of the game to give the East the dramatic comeback victory. The three Exeter players played a prominent role in the comeback and the win for their team. With the East trailing 7-5 with only a few minutes left in the game, middie Sloan Smith scored on a left-handed bounce shot into the top corner of the goal after an unassisted dodge from up top. Then, with only 9 seconds left in the game and the East trailing 7-6, attackman Tim Redmond started with the ball on an end-line restart and attacked the right side of the goal. He drew a slide, freed up his hands, and gave a perfect assist to a cutting middie who scored the game-tying goal with no time left on the clock. Meanwhile, defenseman Dylan Cox was all over the field scooping up ground balls, making great checks, and playing a huge role in the East clearing the ball against the West ride. The West attack featured many future Division I players going to programs that include Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and Navy, so holding them to single digits after falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter was a great accomplishment for Dylan and all the East defensemen and goalies. It was a great game under the lights on the Cushing pro turf field, and certainly highlighted the quality of New England lacrosse.
