Pinkerton Scrimmage Summary

For the first time since the series started in 1973, Exeter and Pinkerton scrimmaged instead of playing a game. The newly enforced NHIAA rule prohibiting NH high schools from competing against teams that play post graduates forced Exeter to scrimmage with several key players observing from the sidelines. This was an opportunity for many younger and less experienced reserve players to play against one of the best teams in all of New England, and the probable NH state champions. Pinkerton featured fast, aggressive, and skilled players who have played together in the Pinkerton system or their feeder program for many years. The very young defense for Exeter struggled with adjusting to this high level of play, but they definitely improved as the scrimmage progressed. The offense received a real dose of pressure defensive tactics from aggressive long poles, and similar to the defense, they initially had difficulty. However, the 2nd half of the scrimmage featured a big improvement in the team's play as Exeter settled down and made some adjustments. Overall, this was a positive experience in helping the BIG RED prepare for its upcoming games this week against North Yarmouth Academy and Moses Brown School.
