Exeter 11 St John's Prep 2
Mon, 5/5, Exeter - Exeter picked up where they left off on Saturday
at Tabor by playing very consistent and solid lacrosse in their defeat of
St John's Prep by the score of 11-2. Offensive star and game
ball winner Ryan Ambs (3 goals, 1 assist) started the scoring with a nice
cut and feed from Tom Petty in the first quarter. Ryan added
another unassisted goal at the end of the quarter to go along with a Petty
solo score and a Ryan Beer goal on an assist from linemate Chris
Mottau. Exeter extended their 4-1 first quarter lead to a 7-2 halftime
lead on the strength of solid play at both ends of the field. St Johns Prep
was concentrating on doubling Mike Hines, their star attackman from
last year, and Mike moved the ball well to his open teammates for scoring
opportunities. Sloan Smith scored 3 goals on the day, Tom Petty
finished with 1 goal, 2 assists, Chris Mottau was 1 and 1, and Mike
himself scored one and assisted another. After jumping out to an 8-3 lead
early in the 3rd quarter, liberal substitution ensued, and the reserve players
continued the high level of play. The defense of Wiley Dornseif, Will Tuttle,
and Stewart Stout continues to dominate, and John Reed also
had a great day both at long pole middie and close defense. Julian Rodier
was solid in the net for the first half, and backup Eric Hassett pitched
a shutout in the 2nd half. Ryan Ambs was not only the offensive star
of the day, but he was great on faceoffs, groundballs, and played tough defense.
Exeter performed as well as the coaches could possibly expect for a Monday
game, so all were happy.
