Exeter 10 Pingree School 5
Wed, 4/23, Exeter, NH - Exeter dominated play for the first
half of the game with great work on groundballs, riding, and aggressive defense.
The time of possession was very lopsided in Exeter's favor, and the 7-1 halftime
lead is an accurate indicator of the BIG RED dominance. Game
ball winner Eric Horan led the offense with a 3-goal and 1-assist performance
that included the first two goals of the game as well as the 10th and final
goal of the contest. Other offense standouts were Tom Petty with 2
goals and 2 assists, and Sloan Smith with 2 goals and 1 assist. Long
pole Tom Rubel played particularly well from the wing on faceoffs.
This enabled Exeter to win the large majority of the faceoffs and maintain
ball control. To Pingree's credit, they kept playing hard despite Exeter scoring
the first goal of the 3rd quarter. They scored two 3rd quarter goals to trim
the lead to 8-3, but a Gavin Nurick goal made it a 9-3 game after three
quarters. Pingree kept working hard, and scored two unanswered 4th period
goals to narrow the margin to four. Eric Horan finished the Exeter
scoring at the 6-minute mark of the final quarter, and goalie Julian Rodier
made some nice saves to shutout Pingree the rest of the way. As always,
the defense of Wiley Dornseif, Stew Stout, and Will Tuttle was
superb. Pingree was a much improved club from last year, so this was a good
win for the BIG RED. Click here
