Exeter 6 North Yarmouth 2
Wed, 4/16 Exeter, NH - Exeter's defense dominated the day as
Exeter came away with a 6-2 victory. The margin of victory does not reflect
Exeter's dominance in time of possession and shots on goal, but stellar play
by Peter Lowell, the young NYA goalie, kept the game close in score. Exeter's
defense of Wiley Dornseif, Will Tuttle, Stew Stout, Tom Rubel, Jon Reed,
and goalie Julian Rodier all had outstanding games. NYA shot opportunities
were few and far between after they went ahead 1-0 midway through the 1st
quarter. Exeter finally converted one of their many shots on goal when Tom
Petty scored on an assist from Wiley Dornseif, and 1-1 is how the
1st quarter ended. Mike Hines,
the offensive star of the day and game ball winner scored the only goal
of the 2nd quarter, to give Exeter a slim 2-1 halftime lead. Exeter dominated
possession in the 2nd half, but continued to have trouble putting the ball
past the inspired NYA goalie. Mike Hines scored two 3rd quarter goals
and Michael Scalise scored on a nice feed from Petty to give
Exeter a 5-1 lead after three quarters. When Hines scored his fourth
goal of the game midway through the 4th quarter, a 6-1 lead looked insurmountable.
The team is clearly improving in many facets of the game as the weather cooperates
and more full fieldwork takes place. It is often the case that the offense
takes longer to come up to full speed, so this should be a great week for
continuing improvement. Click here
