Exeter 10 NMH 5
Sat, 5/10, Exeter - - Once again, Exeter played dominant lacrosse
in the 3rd quarter to overcome a somewhat sluggish first half in their 10-5
defeat of NMH. This was the 55th meeting between Exeter and NMH, a rivalry
that dates back to the late 1940's. Exeter now leads the series 45-10, as
the BIG RED up their record to 9-3 on the season.
Game ball winner and the offensive star
of the day was Tom Petty, who paced the attack with a 5 goal and 1 assist
effort performance. Mike Hines had a fine offensive game as well with
a 2 goal and 2 assist effort. Goalie Julian Rodier continues to play
well in the nets and to gain confidence in each game. He made several outstanding
saves in the first half when the game was close and Exeter was clinging to
a 3-1 lead. Exeter's long poles consisting of Will Tuttle, Wiley Dornseif,
Stew Stout, John Reed, and Tom Rubel played tough and aggressive
defense, but poor shooting kept the Exeter offense off the scoreboard for
the entire 2nd quarter. Although NMH managed to score the first goal of the
2nd half on a broken Exeter clear, Exeter responded by ripping off five unanswered
goals in the period to take a commanding 8-2 lead into the 4th quarter. Exeter
and NMH traded goals, and then Exeter was content to run time off the clock
and control the ball. Although it was not Exeter's finest performance of the
season, we managed to win against a good ball club that was playing very hard.
