Tom Petty sets new scoring standard for 10th graders

Lower Tom Petty has broken the scoring record for 10th graders that was previously held by Will Clemens '87 and Tom Gilbane '93. The previous record was 47 points that each of these former great players accumulated in their lower years of 1985 and 1991 respectively. Will was a high school All-American who went on to play college lacrosse at the University of Virginia, and Tom Gilbane played four years at Brown University. Both Will and Tom are on the Exeter All-Time Career Scoring List. This season, Tom Petty has scored 30 goals and 27 assists for a total of 57 points. Tom has shattered the previous record for scoring in the 9th and 10th grades combined that was formerly held by Joaquin Walker '01. Joaquin, a former high school all-american and currently a starting midfielder for Amherst, accumulated 64 points in his 9th and 10th grade years of 1998 and 1999. Tom's total including his 13 goals and 4 assists last year now stands at 43 goals, 31 assists, for a record 74 points so far.
