Exeter 13 North Yarmouth Academy 8
Led by a high scoring attack, the Exeter Big Red defeated a
scrappy North Yarmouth Academy team by the score of 13-8. The pattern of starting
slow and playing better in the 2nd half of the game continues to be in evidence.
NYA jumped out to a surprising 2-0 lead before Exeter got into gear. Fortunately,
the attack unit of Colin Thune, Ryan Voccola, Casey D'Annalfo, and game
ball winner Alan Eberstein all had excellent games. They finished the
day accounting for 12 of Exeter's 13 goals. Alan's 4 goals and 3 assists led
the way, with Colin also scoring 4 goals. Once again, it was a big outburst
in the 3rd quarter that put the game away. This six-goal period featured fast
breaks, extra man, as well as all even scoring. To NYA's credit, they continued
to battle hard and put up points. They are the defending Maine champions,
and certainly have a good chance of repeating. The close defense of Tom Rubel,
Matt Perdoni, and Ben Gage played very well. Only three of NYA's eight goals
came from their attack. Also playing an outstanding game was long stick middie
Gabe Wood. Gabe was all over the field making plays, picking up ground balls,
and causing general mahem. Their was liberal substitution in the 4th quarter,
and all the subs performed well. Bobby Goulding recorded his first career
varsity point with a beautiful assist near the end of the 3rd period, and
John Rollo did the same thing several minutes later.
