Exeter 12 Tabor 11
Saturday, May 4th - Exeter, NH- As expected,
this contest was a hard fought battle between two of the traditionally strongest
teams in Eastern New England. Tabor's losing record hides the fact that they
have been in close games against tough competition. Exeter fell behind 1-0
midway through the 1st quarter, but tied the score before the period ended.
Exeter struck first in the 2nd quarter, but Tabor reeled off 3 unanswered
goals to go ahead 4-2. Then Exeter stormed back with 4 unanswered goals of
their own to go into halftime with a 6-4 lead. The second half began with
Exeter scoring twice early, and poised to put the game out of reach at 8-4.
Exeter continued to play well in the 3rd, and went ahead 11-6 before Tabor
scored a late period goal to narrow it back to a 4 goal game. Exeter, missing
their starting face-off middie Wyatt Golding, had trouble controlling the
ball in the 4th quarter. Tabor stormed back and came within one goal at both
11-10 and 12-11, but Exeter managed to hold on for the win. The offense was
lead by Casey D'Annolfo's (4 goals) and Alan Eberstein's (2
goals and 3 assists). The defense, led by game
ball winner Ben Gage, applied a lot of pressure to Tabor in the first
half, but could not figure out how to stop a red hot Tabor attackman who finished
the day with 5 goals and 3 assists. Ben played super individual defense,
and he was a key guy on loose balls and getting open for clearing passes.
Peter Monroe made major contribution by hustling all over the field, grabbing
many ground balls, scoring a goal, and being the key guy in transitioning
the ball from defense to offense. Although it was not the level of play that
Exeter displayed on Wednesday against Navy Prep, the Big Red managed a win
against a very hard working and deserving opponent. See
