Exeter 12 St. Pauls 8
April 10th, Exeter, NH -
In a game that was filled with penalty flags flying through the air, Exeter's
Big Red prevailed over St Paul's by a 12-8 margin. Unlike the last few games,
Exeter started on a strong note with the first two goals of the game by senior
attackmen and co-captains Colin Thune and Alan Eberstein. Exeter's domination
of play lasted for about the first six minutes before St. Paul's changed the
momentum by scoring three quick goals of their own. A solo dodge by middie
Peter Monroe evened the score at 3-3 at the end of the 1st quarter. Exeter
took a 6-5 lead by halftime on goals by Eberstein, D'Annolfo, and another
by Monroe. It was in the 3rd and 4th quarter that physical play got out of
hand, and the flags started flying. Exeter was penalized 9 times in the 2nd
half, while St Paul's players were flagged an amazing 13 times in that same
period of time. Exeter's man-up offense and man-down defense were the key
to Exeter building leads of 8-5 and then 12-6 with less than three minutes
in the game. Game ball winner Casey D'Annolfo
scored two more goals in the 2nd half and finished the day with 3 goals
and an assist. He did a great job of running the man-up offense and hustling
all over the field. High scorer Alan Eberstein had another big game with a
4 goal, 3 assist effort, while fellow attackmen Colin Thune and Ryan Voccola
chipped in two and one respectively. The long pole unit of Gabe Wood, Matt
Perdoni, Seth Coburn, and Ben Gage played heroically in front of stopper Jeff
Miller. Jeff had another great game that included 13 saves, many of them from
point blank range. Although it was not an artistic victory, it was well earned
and certainly hard fought.
