Exeter 9  Kennebunk HS 7
Exeter, NH, Wednesday, April 3rd - In very cold and rainy conditions, Exeter prevailed over a scrappy and talented Kennebunk team that will surely challenge for the Maine championship this year. This was a hard fought contest that was close throughout the first half, but saw Exeter pull away slightly during the 3-1 third quarter. Exeter had several chances to bust the game open, but poor shooting and very good goalie play prevented Exeter from pulling away. This win marked the 200 career victory for Coach Bergofsky as head coach of Exeter lacrosse, and the team presented him a game ball recognizing this accomplishment. Although he did not register in the scoring column, senior midfielder Wyatt Golding was the player game ball winner due to his excellent work as the dominant face-off man, and his overall outstanding play all over the field. Attackman Alan Eberstein (3/0), and midfielders Peter Monroe (1/2), and Gavin Nurick (1/2) were the offensive leaders. Senior long pole middie Gabe Wood played an outstanding game at both ends of the field. He scored once, assisted once, and was all over the field gobbling up ground balls and playing defense. Rounding out the scoring for Exeter were Casey D'Annolfo, Ryan Voccola, and Colin Thune, who all had one goal apiece. Leading the defense in front of goalie Jeff Miller were Ben Gage, Seth Coburn, and Matt Perdoni. Exeter needed this tough game as we get ready to face the always powerful Belmont Hill squad on Saturday. While there were many positive elements to the contest, there are also several areas that need additional attention during practice.
