Exeter 8 Cushing 4
Exeter, NH, Friday, April 26th
- Once again, Exeter played well enough to win, but not inspiring lacrosse.
Though clearly the stronger team, Exeter struggled to a 3-3 tie after the
first quarter, and managed only a 4-3 lead at the half. The offense was out
of synch, passed poorly, and shot poorly. Defensively, the team was playing
well, and led by game ball winner Seth Coburn.
Seth shut his own man down completely, helped out on others, and did
a fine job on ground balls and clears. Exeter was led offensively by attackman
Casey D'Annolfo's 3 goals, Alan Eberstein (2,1), and Peter
Monroe (1,1), and Ryan Voccola (1,1). It is never easy to play
on a Friday after a Wednesday game, and this showed in Exeter's performance.
Exeter played solidly in the 3rd quarter to open up a 6-3 lead, and then extended
it to 8-3 midway through the 4th. Liberal substitution ensued, and the game
remained at 8-3 until a last second shot by Cushing hit the net as the final
horn sounded. Cushing deserves much praise for their scrappy play, hustle,
and willingness to fight hard until the final whistle.
