Exeter 7  Tabor 3
Saturday, May 5th - Marion, Ma - The Big Red defense played an absolutely brilliant game as they completely shut down the Tabor offense for most of the game. Led by captains Greg Donohue and Adam White, the play of the long sticks was dominating. Ben Courchesne, Chris Lawrence, and long stick middie Pat Sullivan just frustrated almost every attempt on the Exeter goal. When shots were allowed, either Goalie Brian Anand would make a save, or the Tabor players would misfire. Tabor's defense was equally strong for much of the first half. When Exeter lost high scorer Alan Eberstein to a first quarter injury, the burden was placed on the rest of the offense to come through. Finally with less than 5 minutes left until halftime, game ball winner Colin Thune made the two key offensive plays to turn the game in Exeter's favor. Both plays involved solo dodges that resulted in scores and an Exeter 2-0 lead. Once the ice was broken by Colin, the offense seemed to flow better. An Andrew Dodwell goal off of an Andrew Sung assist gave Exeter a 3-0 margin at the half. While the defense continued their shutout for the 3rd quarter, the offense managed to double their output with goals by Ryan Voccola, Andrew Dodwell, and Joaquin Walker. Exeter was assessed a 3- minute stick penalty to start the 4th quarter, but the man-down D allowed only one goal during that stretch. When Joaquin Walker added his 2nd goal after a nice pass from Pater Monroe with only 6 minutes left in the game, the 7-1 margin looked insurmountable. This goal moved Joquin into 4th place on the Exeter All-Time Scoring list with 67 goals and 60 assists in his career to date. To their credit, Tabor continued to play hard and managed to score two goals with less than a minute to play. This was a very solid win for Exeter against a quality opponent.
