Exeter 12 Opponent 5
Plymouth, NH - Led by recently elected All-Americans Joaquin
Walker and Greg Donohue, the Big Red defeated a scrappy Holderness team 12-5.
Game ball winner Joaquin Walker led the offense with 3 goals and an assist
and great ground ball work all over the field. He was strongly supported on
offense with a superb 3-goal effort by Gavin Nurick, and 2-goal games by both
Andrew Dodwell and Ben Harris. High scorer Alan Eberstein, who is starting
to come back into midseason form after his knee injury, contributed a goal
and an assist. Exeter used their better depth to great advantage after Holderness
battled to a 2-2 tie after the first quarter. Andrew Sung and Matt Stolpinski
were strong on faceoffs, and middie Jared Connell was tough on ground balls.
The defense of Greg Donohue, Adam White, Ben Courchesne, Chris Lawrence, and
Pat Sullivan turned up the pressure and allowed Exeter to generate their transition
game. This led to five unanswered 2nd quarter goals to give Exeter a comfortable
7-2 halftime edge. Although Holderness came out strong in the 2nd half, Goalie
Brian Anand made some very nice 3rd quarter saves to help thwart any Holderness
hopes of a big comeback. After scoring two early goals in the 4th quarter
to take a commanding 10-4 lead, Exeter's reserves played extremely well the
remainder of the 4th quarter.
