Exeter 5 Deerfield 6
On a warm and sunny afternoon in Western Massachusetts Exeter and Deerfield
proved to all on hand that they were watching a great lacrosse game between
two of the best teams in New England and also the country. Both teams were
mirror images of each other, each possessing strong defensive talent that
has the ability to dominate a game and good solid offenses that could control
the tempo. Exeters defense led by Greg Donohue, Adam White, Ben Courchesne,
Chris Lawrence, and LSM Pat Sullivan, forced a potent Deerfield squad to search
for an offense that would beat this solid defense. When a crack was found,
Goalie Brian Anand was magnificent in the cage. He finished the game with
13 saves, several on the spectacular side. The game was as close as the 6-5
final score. The lead changed hands five times until with 4 minutes left in
the game, Deerfield snuck one by Anand for the game winner. Exeter had a great
chance after a time out with 49 seconds left. Andrew Sung and Joaquin Walker
worked a perfect two man play and Sung's shot went wide of the Deerfield goalie.
Walker finished the game with 2 goals while Ben Harris, Andrew Dodwell, and
Alan Eberstein added one each. Eberstein also had an assist, along with long
sticks White and Sullivan and goaltender Anand. Exeter was lauded by the Deerfield
coach as having outplayed, and outhustled his squad in all areas of the contest.
The big Red left it all on the field at Deerfield and should be given praise
for a well played game as well. Sung and Matt Stulpinski did extremely well
in faceoffs as the middies played some good old fashion lacrosse at both ends
of the field.
