Exeter 9 Cushing 2
Exeter, NH, Friday, April 27th - Led by game ball winner Greg
Donohue, the Exeter defense dominated the opposition to bring another solid
victory to the Big Red lacrosse team. Exeter did not give up a goal until
well into the 2nd quarter of play, as Greg, Adam White, Ben Courchesne, Chris
Lawrence, and long pole middies Pat Sullivan and Nick Crawford stifled any
attempt Cushing made to score. Meanwhile, Exeter middies controlled the ground
balls and play between the restraining lines. Although it took awhile for
the offense to find the right location to shoot against a pretty hot goalkeeper,
eventually the goals started to fall. Ironically, the most spectacular goal
of the game came on defenseman Greg Donohue's rush up to the offense end,
where he dodged a player at the top of the restraining box, and then fired
home a high hard left handed bullet to the upper right corner of the goal.
This goal, two Joaquin Walker goals, and a Colin Thune conversion off of a
nice feed from Luke Nutting, gave Exeter the 4-1 halftime lead. Exeter increased
their lead to 7-2 at the end of the 3rd quarter with two goals from Ben Harris,
and another from birthday boy Alan Eberstein. This was a solid win for Exeter
as the team enters into the very challenging second half of their schedule.
It will take superior play next week if Exeter is to continue their winning
ways.
