Exeter 5  Belmont Hill 4

Belmont Hill, MA - Exeter started off the 2001 season with a last minute win in a game that was dominated by the excellent defenses of both teams. It was evident from the beginning of the game, that both offenses were struggling due to quality defensive play as well as very limited practice time outside. This was only Exeter's second time on a field, and Belmont Hill was not much better off. After a scoreless 1st quarter, Joaquin Walker scored the first goal of the season on a patented dodge from up top. Half-way through the 2nd quarter, middie Peter Monroe rifled home a pass from Ben Harris from near the restraining line to put Exeter up 2-0. Belmont scored two goals to answer and tie the score at the half. Exeter drew first blood in the 3rd quarter as middie Jared Connell made a nice move from the wing. However, Belmont took advantage of a couple of Exeter penalties and scored two 3rd period goals to take a 4-3 lead going into the 4th quarter. Attackman Alan Eberstein tied the score early in the 4th, and set up the heroics of game ball winner Ben Harris who dodged and scored the game winner with only 20 seconds left in the game. Kudos to the entire defensive unit of Greg Donohue, Adam White, Ben Courschesne, Chris Lawrence, Nick Crawford, and Pat Sullivan. Also meriting special mention is Andrew Sung, whowas dominant on faceoffs, and was gobbling up ground balls all over the field.
