Exeter 7 Andover 5
Exeter, NH - Exeter defeated a very hard-working and scrappy
Andover team by a smaller margin than many expected. Andover played a very
conservative ball control offense and a closely packed zone defense in order
to eliminate Exeter's advantage in depth and athleticism. This strategy worked
quite well because of excellent goalie play by the Andover goalie, and the
equally excellent face-off work by Andover middie Isaac Taylor. However, Exeter
remained in control throughout the game, and only trailed briefly in the first
quarter. The long stick squad of Donohue, White, Courchesne, Lawrence, and
Sullivan did their usual excellent job. Game ball winner Peter
Monroe had a big day pumping in two important goals, and Ben Harris also
was a multiple goal scorer with 2 goals and an assist. Exeter moved the ball
well against the Andover zone to create many great shots, but many of those
shots were either saved, hit a pipe, or missed the cage. Exeter looked like
they were going to bust the game open when the went ahead 7-3 half way through
the 3rd quarter, but Andover did a fine job of not letting the game get out
of control. It was a great ending to an excellent season. Those players on
the team the last 3 years can take much pride in their 3-year record of 42-10.
Congratulations.
