Learning to Write: from Ceramics to Poetry


Preps closely observe ceramics works before writing about them

Exeter's Junior Studies program is an immersion in Harkness learning. Started almost 20 years ago, it develops skills in new preps during their first term. A major objective of the program is to get preps writing.

This fall, Exeter's 198 preps visited the Lamont Gallery exhibit "Generations: Works by Jun Kaneko & Toshiko Takaezu," which highlights works by 2 world-renowned ceramicists. The teaching objective: to write about the ceramics pieces on display using vivid and expressive language.
