Exeter 20 Berkshire 2
April 1st - The Big Red opened their season in fine form by dominating the visiting team from Berkshire County, MA from the opening whistle. Every phase of the game was controlled by Exeter as the select team from western Massachusetts just did not have the speed or manpower to stay with Exeter. Ryan Glennon and Andrew Sung won almost every face-off by themselves, and more often than not these led to fast break opportunities. Although Exeter's shooting was not sharp at this early point in the season, many quality opportunities were created by unselfish passing and ball movement. Newcomer Damien Chaviano earned the distinction of scoring the first Exeter goal of the 2000 season after less than one minute of play. High scorer Michael Saraceni earned the first assist as well notching a game high 5 goals and 2 assists. Exeter finished the quarter with a 4-0 lead. Everyone on the team started getting significant playing time by the start of the 2nd quarter, and each player made the most of their opportunity. The defense of Greg Donohue, Ben Courchesne, Will Gilmore, and long stick middie Adam White were relentless in their pursuit of Berkshire players whenever they crossed over into Exeter's defensive half of the field. Their excellent play also led to many fast break opportunities, with long poles Greg Donohue and Nick Crawford both earning assists. Other notable events include Dave Seger's first career goal and Wyatt Golding's first career assist. It was a great start to what promises to be an exciting season.
