West Senior All-Stars 12 East Senior All-Stars 7
On a beautiful sunny day, the fans in attendance were treated to an outstanding lacrosse game as the senior all-stars from the West defeated the senior all stars from the East 12-7. The 3 players from Exeter all played extremely well for the East with Michael Saraceni capping his amazing Exeter career by scoring 1 goal and dishing out 1 assist while earning the East MVP award voted upon by the coaches from the West. Long stick midfielder Andrew Agoliati from Loomis Chaffee was the MVP for the West. Coach Bill Glennon had the honor of being the head coach for the East team, and coaching his son Ryan in the last game of his illustrious prep career.
The game was much closer than the final score indicates. There was never more than two goals separating these two talented teams throughout the entire game until the West blew it open with only 4 minutes left in the game. The score at the time was 8-7 with the East clearing the ball. A poor cross field pass resulted in a transition West goal to make it 9-7. An offsides mistake by the East turned the ball over and another transition goal put the game away 10-7 with less than 3 minutes to play. The final two goals for the West resulted from the East putting on a 10 man press during the final two minutes.
This game was dominated by the multitude of talented long sticks on the field and the excellent goalkeeping. Despite the offensive power possessed by both teams, the score was 0-0 through most of the first quarter. Ryan Glennon and all the East face-off middies had initial difficulty with the incredibly talented face-off man from #1 ranked Taft, but by half-time, Ryan was more than holding his own and the East was coming up with most of the draws. Meanwhile, Ryan was playing a very good game at both ends of the field by playing excellent defense, noving the ball well in transition, and finding the open man at the offensive end. He assisted on one goal, and almost scored on a couple of excellent shots. At the defensive end, Will Gilmore was outstanding. He stripped his attackman twice in the open field, picked up the loose ball and found an open middie cutting up the field. His ground ball work and clearing passes were excellent, and he clearly showed he belonged on the field with the other talented defenseman. Despite getting repeatedly fouled by the aggressive West defensive players, Michael Saraceni took over the game in the 3rd quarter. He scored a goal, assisted on another, hit the top pipe after another successful dodge, and generally created havoc for the West defense. It was a fitting performance for a player who has been such a great player for Exeter these last three years. Michael still has one game remaining in his high school career when he plays in the National North-South Game at RPI on June 24th.
