Ted Seabrooke
Head Coach 1965-1972
Assistant Coach 1952-1961
Record as Head Coach - 54-43-2

Ted was born February 21st, 1921 and graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Physical Education in 1942. Ted was appointed to the Exeter Department of Physical Education in 1945. Coming from the midwest, Ted was brand new to the sport of lacrosse. Ted's first love was wrestling. He was the head coach of wrestling for 32 years, and he was also involved in the football program at the varsity or JV level most of his illustrious coaching career. Despite being new to the sport of lacrosse, Ted would become one of the central figures in Exeter lacrosse as the program transitioned from the early years of the 30's, 40's, and 50's into the 60's and 70's. Ted first became involved with Exeter lacrosse at the club level, where he was undoubtedly trained and indoctrinated in basics and fundamentals by Norman Hatch. The club program was the feeding program for the varsity, and where future players learned the fundamentals and acquired the necessary skills for the higher level. When Bob Kesler stepped down as head coach after the 1951 season, Ted stepped in as the assistant varsity coach to help Alan Vrooman. Ted assisted Alan from 1952 through 1961, a span of ten years in which Exeter lacrosse teams recorded an incredible 77-19-3 won-loss record with undefeated seasons in 1953, 1957, and 1960.

After Howard Fish left Exeter after heading the program the varsity program from 1962-through 1964, Ted stepped in as head coach for the next eight years. Ted worked with a tremendous variety of assistant coaches during his head coaching years of 1965 through 1972, but like Ted himself, none of them had actually played the game of lacrosse themselves. The three-year span from 1966 through 1968 were Ted's best years in which his teams were 8-2, 12-1, and 10-3 respectively. Unfortunately, Andover lacrosse rose to prominence under the direction of former Exeter captain Bob Hulburd '39 during Ted's tenure as head coach. Ted's teams were able to defeat Andover only once during that eight year stretch when they beat Andover 11-5 in 1967. Ted's overall record as head coach was 54-43-2.Ted was the Chairman of Physical Education and Director of Athletics from 1971-1980. Ted was loved by all his players and respected and liked by his colleagues and fellow coaches. He will certainly always be considered one of the giants and true gentleman in New England Prep School athletic history. Ted tragically passed away on October 9th, 1980 after a lengthy illness. He has been honored in many ways for his outstanding career, including being named an honorary member of the PEA classes of 1946 and 1972.
